Start with the written agreement
The consequences of an unpaid loan depend on the contract, the provider and the applicable law. Do not rely on a collection message or a general internet answer as a substitute for your own agreement. Find the repayment schedule, total amount due, late-payment clause, contact details and complaints process.
Loans247 LK is not a lender and cannot change a payment date, waive a charge or access an account. The provider must confirm the current balance and the options available for that specific agreement.
Possible consequences of missing a payment
A missed payment may lead to late charges, additional interest, collection contact or restrictions on using the provider again. The exact result should be stated in the agreement. Do not assume that every provider uses the same fee, timetable or reporting process.
Ignoring contact can make the situation harder to document. Keep copies of the quotation, agreement, payment receipts and messages. If a collector contacts you, verify the company name and account details before sending money or personal information.
What to do before the due date
- Calculate the amount you can pay without missing food, housing, utilities or essential transport.
- Contact the provider through a verified channel and explain the issue before the due date where possible.
- Ask for any available option, revised date or repayment plan in writing, including its full additional cost.
- Keep a record of the request, the response and every payment reference.
A new short-term loan is not automatically a solution. Compare the total cost and consider whether it would only move the same shortage to another date.
Protect yourself during collection
Do not disclose passwords, PINs or one-time codes. Do not pay an advance fee to a personal account to unlock a restructuring offer. If the name on a payment request does not match the contracting entity, pause and verify it through the provider's published support channel.
If you believe a charge or collection action is incorrect, use the provider's complaint process and keep the disputed terms in writing. For legal advice or a formal dispute, use an appropriately qualified Sri Lankan adviser or authority.
Compare before borrowing again
Before taking another loan, review the reason for the shortfall, the reliable repayment source and all existing obligations. Use the provider directory only as a research starting point and verify the current quotation on the destination website.
